Showtime Strength & Performance in Newark, Ohio exists because we believe that strength is a tool that empowers and changes lives. Whether you’re a youth athlete trying to get more speed on the bases or you’re in retirement age trying to enjoy more of the golden years. At the time when we opened, fitness was segmented between boot camps or access-only gyms that left many feeling lost or unwelcome in a gym setting. Our goal is to help people gain strength and confidence so they can have a positive impact on the people in their lives. We believe our adults should move like athletes even if they hung their cleats up decades ago.

I was motivated to be in the fitness industry because I know firsthand the difference it can make in someone’s life. A coach took me under his wing to help me build strength and power for sports. This change amplified how I viewed myself and what I thought was possible. When I began my internship at Denison University, it opened me to a wide variety of fitness professionals and some people that have become lifelong friends. We are connected by bonds that were developed in a dark weight room down a narrow hallway. I quickly became amazed by how helpful people were in teaching student athletes from all over the world.

I decided to open our business because there was no true strength and conditioning facility that existed in Licking County. There were boot camps, speed and agility facilities, and private training spaces, but none of these blended the power of strength and community. This led many people to driving to bigger cities to find the training they needed to reach their goal. From all of the people I had met through Denison University and the private strength training facilities I had been to across the country, I knew there was a need and a possibility to create a facility based on strength.

Since opening Showtime, I’ve learned that people are capable of much more than they believe. They just need someone to help guide the path of getting there. Many of us (hi, it’s me) are slow to acknowledge our own progress, which leads to a feeling of defeat. When we have people guiding us that have the experience of achieving what we want, they know the roadblocks ahead and also the workarounds to overcome them. While we sell lifting weights, what we really deliver is helping people lift their own self-doubt away.

Today, we’re more invested than ever in helping people choose their next best step. In a world that information is coming at us faster than ever, decision fatigue becomes a real factor in making progress. There are many paths that can lead us to a goal, but some of them might have large detours while others will have a more direct route. The next best step can often be something simple that we miss when we’re too close to the goal. This approach is helping people simplify their process, reduce stress around the goal, and have a higher success and satisfaction rate.

If our process and our mission of building strength and confidence sound like something that could help you, book a no-sweat intro to meet with one of our professional coaches. We’ll help you map out the best plan to hit your goals that actually fits into your life.
